Preventative Dentistry
“If my teeth aren’t giving me problems, why should I see a dentist?”
Many people believe that if their teeth don’t hurt, there is no reason to seek dental care. Unfortunately, if you wait until tooth pain sets in, damage to your teeth may be significant, requiring extensive work or possibly even loss of the tooth.
The American Dental Association recommends routine cleanings and dental exams every 6 months for patients with healthy mouths. Some patients should have cleanings more frequently, three to four times a year, if they have a history of gum disease or lack the physical ability to care for their teeth at home. Having your teeth cleaned by Lawrie or Juliet on a regular basis will make your visits easier and more comfortable.
At your 6 month cleaning, Dr. Davis will thoroughly examine your teeth and mouth. Depending on your history of dental work and home care, x-rays are usually taken once a year to detect cavities that may be forming between your teeth. Remember, small problems usually can be fixed with small solutions.
